Tysons Partnership’s Tysons Cares Season of Giving Continues to Give Back to Charity

TYSONS, VA (October 30, 2018) — Tysons Partnership announced that its third annual Tysons Cares Season of Giving campaign generated over $55,000 in total donations throughout a two-month long series of community events and fundraising initiatives. Proceeds from the campaign were distributed to local nonprofit and charity organizations supporting food, shelter and clothing initiatives, including Food for Others, Second Story, and The Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools.

“The Season of Giving offers corporate partners like Freddie Mac, community leaders and charitable organizations an opportunity to connect in support of our local communities,” said Michelle Courtney, Vice Chair of the Tysons Partnership’s Community Responsibility Council and Manager of Corporate Community Engagement with Freddie Mac. ”This initiative serves as a platform for supporting those in need, while highlighting the wonderful work of our nonprofit partners and the communities they serve!”

The 2018 Tysons Cares Season of Giving officially launched on September 8 with the Food for Others Tysons 5K held at Tysons Corner Center Mall. Food for Others, a local non-profit that distributes over 2.2 million pounds of food annually to over 30,000 individuals living in poverty, was the event’s primary beneficiary.

“The Tysons Partnership understands the importance of community support in the work we do and has enabled us to extend our outreach year after year,” said Annie Turner, Executive Director, Food for Others. “The 5K event is a wonderful community event that embodies all that the Tysons area has to offer: outdoor entertainment, teamwork, exercise, and giving back.”

Tysons Tailgate, the Partnership’s annual tailgate-themed public fundraising event, brought over 500 people to the Valo Park campus in Tysons and raised over $9,000 in proceeds benefiting Second Story, a local youth homeless shelter.

The Season of Giving officially ended October 25, with the close of the third annual Shoes4Kids campaign. Members of Tysons Partnership, working together with The Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools, raised over $5,500 in donations toward the purchase of new shoes for local students living in poverty.

Initially launched in 2016, Tysons Cares Season of Giving is an annual fundraising campaign produced by Tysons Partnership that facilitates collaboration between local businesses, government entities, residents, and nonprofits to raise awareness and provide vital resources to community members in need.
