Tysons Partnership Announces Winners of 2016 Tysons Cares Community Leadership Award

December 1, 2016 — Tysons, VA — Tysons Partnership announced AvalonBay Communities and Emily Haggerty of Altus Group as its corporate and individual winners of the inaugural Tysons Cares Tysons Cares Community Leadership Award.

Corporate award recipient AvalonBay Communities demonstrated superior community leadership through a host of charitable engagements highlighted by its generous support of 2016 Tysons Cares September Month of Giving events and initiatives. AvalonBay was an anchor sponsor of the Food for Others Tysons 5K; championed coordination efforts for the #Shoes4KidsDonation Drive leading to the collection of over 400 new athletic shoes for children in need; and led outreach and engagement efforts in support of the Tysons Tailgate Fundraiser for local youth homeless shelter Alternative House.

Through her engagement with the Tysons Partnership Community Responsibility Council, individual award honoree Emily Haggerty served as lead coordinator of all Tysons Cares September Month of Giving events and initiatives, including the #Shoes4Kids Donation Drive, Food for Others Tysons 5K, and Tysons Tailgate Fundraiser. Emily’s efforts helped the Partnership raise over $50,000 for its charitable partners, including the Food for Others, Alternative House and the Fairfax County Public Schools Foundation.

The Annual Tysons Cares Community Leadership Award is given in recognition of exemplary leadership and integrity on behalf of a corporation and an individual in the advancement of charitable and philanthropic causes within Tysons, Virginia and the surrounding communities. Nominees are submitted to through a survey of Tysons Partnership members. Nominations are vetted and finalists are selected by a panel consisting of Tysons Partnership staff and select members of the Tysons Partnership Community Responsibility Council.
